A registered nonprofit. A united family.
Uganda Cranes Ottawa FC promotes soccer and community engagement across Ontario and beyond.

Our story
What began as weekend kickabouts among friends has grown into a registered community nonprofit serving hundreds of players, families and supporters across the National Capital Region. The Cranes carry the spirit of Uganda — the dance, the pride, the unity — onto Canadian fields.
We believe sport is the shortest distance between strangers. Through soccer, we build belonging.
Uganda Cranes Ottawa:
More Than a Soccer Club – A Community Movement
In cities across the world, diaspora communities often search for ways to preserve identity, build unity, and create opportunities for younger generations. In Ottawa, one such vision is beginning to take shape through the establishment of Uganda Cranes Ottawa Sports Association – a community-driven initiative using sport as a bridge between culture, belonging, wellness, and leadership.
What started as conversations among Ugandan diaspora members has now evolved into a structured sports association designed not only to promote soccer, but also to strengthen community bonds and create a lasting platform for social development.
Unlike ordinary recreational clubs, Uganda Cranes Ottawa FC was intentionally established as a sports association rather than simply a soccer team. The broader structure allows room for future growth into youth development, women's sports, mentorship, and partnerships.
Building a Stronger Community Together.
For many immigrants, especially new arrivals, adjusting to life in a new country can be isolating. Long winters, demanding work schedules, and distance from extended family often weaken community interaction. Sports can help solve that problem.
Uganda Cranes Ottawa FC seeks to become that platform.
The association brings together professionals, students, workers, families, and young people from different backgrounds under one identity rooted in unity, discipline, teamwork, and cultural pride. Beyond competition, the initiative emphasizes mental wellness, healthy living, mentorship, and positive community engagement.
Importantly, the project also reflects the growing maturity of the Ugandan diaspora community in Canada. Communities become stronger when they build institutions that outlive individuals. Sustainable organizations create continuity, leadership pipelines, and collective identity. Uganda Cranes Ottawa FC aims to contribute to that long-term vision.
The association has already begun organizing structured training sessions, preseason friendlies, and participation in local competitions within Ottawa. Plans are also underway to expand community outreach and build partnerships that can support youth programs and broader diaspora engagement initiatives.
The leadership behind the initiative emphasizes that the club is founded on non-profit and non-commercial principles. The focus is not on buying or selling players, but on creating opportunities, discipline, exposure, and community participation. Policies and governance structures are being developed to ensure transparency, fairness, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
